Generating Your Own Electricity
Being able to produce your own energy certainly has its perks. For one thing,
you will no longer have to pay for electricity for your home or gas for your car.
However, before you can generate your own electricity, there are several concepts
you need to learn, as well as equipment you have to get. Most of the information
you need to generate your own energy can be found online. The Internet contains all
the data you need to generate and convert solar energy or wind energy on your
own.
For solar energy, the basic things you need are a battery, a charge controller,
an inverter, wires, and solar panels. These items can be readily purchased in most
home supplies stores in the country. Some people are quite handy and prefer to
install the whole thing by themselves but if you are like the rest of us, you can
just purchase the complete set from the store.
However, before you even think about going to the store and buying your own
solar panel kit, you have to realize that these things take up space. Typically,
you need to have 100 square feet of open space where a solar energy center can be
put up. Obviously, these facilities are not that practical for everyone because of
budget or space constraints. A more practical option for most people is the
production of biofuels.
Practically anybody can create biofuels because biofuels can come from any
organic matter, even discarded waste. One of the most common household sources of
biofuels is vegetable oil. The leftover oil from cooking can be converted into
biofuel by subjecting it to heat and filtering out the solid particles. To make
sure that the vegetable oil is reduced to its barest form, you will have to boil it
continuously at 100 degrees Celsius. Once the oil has been thoroughly boiled, you
will have to add some sodium hydroxide. This will make the vegetable turn into a
compound called sodium methoxide.
As you can see, it's not that easy to convert vegetable oil into a biofuel but
these steps are all necessary to make sure that all impurities are removed from the
oil. Once these have all been done, you should allow the oil to cool down. While
boiling the vegetable oil, pay attention to the upper layer that will separate
itself from the rest of the liquid. This is the portion that is turning into
biofuel and that you can use to power some of your electric appliances. If you can
still detect an amount of glycerin, you should subject the liquid to the filtering
process again. Keep repeating the process until the vegetable is completely clean
and pure.
The high prices of gasoline and electricity these days are very crippling to a
lot of families and individuals. To avoid worrying about the costs of such
necessities, we should definitely explore the option of making our own green energy
source. The process may seem to be time-consuming and tedious but it's really quite
helpful if we consider the benefits that we can gain from
it.
